Conference Location

The conference will be held in various locations on N.C. State's campus, located along Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. 

Hotel Accommodations

Conference accommodations are at the Clarion Hotel State Capitol in downtown Raleigh, NC, just down the street from N.C. State's campus. The hotel will be newly renovated, having undergone a $200 million facelift for guest rooms over the winter. 

Hotel Booking Instructions

We have reserved a block of rooms for the CRDM Symposium/CRC event attendees. Please call the Clarion Hotel in Raleigh directly to reserve your room. When calling, mention either "CRDM Symposium" or "CRC" to get the conference rate. Rooms must be booked by March 18, 2013 to guarantee a room at the hotel at the conference rate.

Parking at N.C. State

There are a few pay parking lots available on campus. Most convenient is the lot located on the lowest level of the Coliseum Parking Deck, just a short walk from the symposium site. The fee for parking in this lot on Friday is $2 for the first hour and $1 for each additional hour, with a maximum of $6. There is no charge for parking on any level of the parking deck on Saturday. Coliseum Deck is located at 201 Jeter Dr.

Directions to Coliseum Deck:
From either Hillsborough St. or Western Blvd. turn onto Pullen Dr. Then, turn onto Dunn Ave. The parking deck will be on your left and the pay lot entrance is along Dunn Ave. We recommend that you approach campus via Western Blvd. if possible due to extensive construction on Hillsborough St.
Directions from Coliseum Deck to Park Shops:
Exit the parking deck along Dunn Ave. At the corner of Dunn and Jensen Dr., near the Thompson Theater building, cross Dunn Ave. to the pedestrian tunnel. After exiting the tunnel you will arrive in a parking lot. Walk straight across the parking lot to Stinson Dr. Turn left, Park Shops will be on your right where the street curves left. Park Shops is located at 101 Current Dr., at the corner of Stinson and Current.

From the Clarion Hotel to NCSU North Campus, take either #4 Rex Hospital (Capital Area Transit), #105 Raleigh-RTC (Triangle Transit), or #100 Raleigh-Airport-RTC (Triangle Transit). On Saturday, #105 will not run. View Google Maps directions here.

Local Attractions

Pullen Park & Amusements 
Founded in 1887, Pullen Park is a five-minute walk from the main conference site and a great place for outdoor lovers and kids.  A major rennovation of the park was completed in fall 2011.  The Amusement Center in the park is especially popular with its working historic carousel, kiddie train, paddle boats, playground, picnic shelters, and cafe. 
North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences 
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences is the largest museum of its kind in the Southeast, and general admission to all the facilities is free.  Nine different exhibit halls feature the diversity of North Carolina's natural habitats, from the coast to the mountains.  The newest addtion at the museum is the Nature Research Center (opened April 2012), which is an 80,000 square-foot working research and exhibition wing.  The main feature here is the SECU Daily Planet, a three-story multi-media presentation facility where scientists present and exhibit their work each day.
JC Raulston Arboretum
A 10-acre garden that features a diverse collection of plants from around the world.  As part of the Department of Horticulture Science at NCSU, the Arboretum is a working research and teaching facility that was built and is maintained primarily by university students, faculty, staff, and volunteers.  Popular features include the A.E. Finley Rooftop Terrace, the Finley-Nottingham Rose Garden, and Japanese Garden.  Admission is free.
North Carolina Museum of Art
The NC Museum of Art is one of the best museums in the area for European and American art.  It is particularly popular among tourists, partly because admission is free for the general museum collection and the Museum Park.  The museum is open from 10am to 5pm Tuesday through Thursday, on Fridays from 10am to 9pm, and on Saturday on Sunday from 10am-5pm.
During the Symposium there will be two special exhibits that may be of particular interest: 0 to 60: The Experience of Time in Contemporary Art and Objects of Devotion: Medieval English Alabaster Sculpture from the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Mordecai Historic Park & the Raleigh Trolley
Visit historic Mordecai Park, where you can tour the Mordecai Mansion, an antebellum plantation home with many of its original furnishings.  While at Mordecai, you can also tour other historic structures which have been moved to the park for preservation, including the birthplace of Andrew Johnson.
Lake Johnson Park
Lake Johnson Park is composed of 150+ acre lake and 300+ acres of surrounding land.  The park offers boating (both rentals and personal launches), picnic shelters, concessions, factility rentals, 3.5 miles of paved greenway trails, 2 miles of unpaved trails, and a vast array of recreational opportunities for the entire family.
